A Little About Me

My name's Nick, and I'm a Registered Psychotherapist. I take a trauma-informed, person-centred approach to psychotherapy. I have over 8 years of experience in the mental health and social services fields. I believe that it's important to treat each person that I work with as an individual with unique needs and qualities. I approach therapy as a platform whereby an alliance between client and therapist is fostered, allowing the client to heal and grow while receiving guidance along the way. My areas of focus are LGBTQ2IA issues, anxiety, mood disorders, and trauma.

My approach is tailored to the client’s needs, values and identity. This approach has presumption that clients possess the capacity to identify solutions to their problems with the support of a therapist. A client-centred approach is highly collaborative and allows clients to choose their own direction in therapy and to identify what is most important for them to work on, with the support of their therapist.

I believe that one’s emotions, thoughts/beliefs, and behaviours are interconnected and should be addressed as a system. These three components are viewed in relation to one another and approached holistically. Through interventions that target maladaptive thoughts & beliefs, behaviours, and emotional wounds & reactions, I support my clients to reflect and become more in-tune with this system, leading to improved quality of life, better functioning, and increased sense of control.

Supporting my clients to acquire skills for coping, self-care, relationships, communication, and self-discovery are key to how I work as a therapist. I deliver skills training in a variety of ways, including via handouts, worksheets, and practicing in sessions. Psychoeducation is provided to support clients in understanding themselves as they embark on their journey of self-discovery, healing, and personal growth.
